Rossi is not only distinguished by the number of titles or victories, but also by the connection with the fans, the way he has survived many generations, many technical changes, many innovations of MotoGP and is still loved. If Márquez is to surpass him, he must prove his longevity, in addition to winning races, in terms of his character, his impact on his teammates/newcomers, and how he will be remembered when he retires.
Márquez is very close to that goal now — he has won races, won pole positions, and dominated the standings with a clear lead over the rest.
