🛑SHOCKING NEWS: Max Verstappen launches fierce attack on Stefano Domenicali — “This season is a disaster — he should resign immediately!”

Four-time World Champion Max Verstappen has broken his silence in explosive fashion, launching a direct and scathing attack on Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali over the controversial 2026 regulations.

In a no-holds-barred interview conducted shortly after the Japanese Grand Prix, Verstappen did not mince his words when asked about the current state of the championship:

“This season is a disaster. The regulations are killing the sport. Stefano Domenicali should resign immediately.”

The statement, delivered with visible frustration, spread like wildfire across social media and the global motorsport media within minutes. Verstappen, who has dominated Formula 1 for the past four years, accused the 2026 technical rules of creating unpredictable handling, reduced grip, and a car that is “extremely difficult and dangerous to drive.”

He specifically criticized the heavy emphasis on electrical power and battery systems, claiming the new regulations have turned Formula 1 into “a battery management championship rather than a true test of driving and engineering skill.”

“I’ve been racing at the highest level for many years, but this is the first time I feel like the car is fighting against me more than the other drivers,” Verstappen continued. “We’re spending millions on development, yet the racing is becoming more processional and less exciting. Someone at the top needs to take responsibility, and right now that responsibility lies with Stefano Domenicali.”

The Dutchman’s comments come at a critical moment. The 2026 season has been marked by complaints from multiple drivers about the new cars’ behaviour, particularly their sensitivity to wind and tyre wear. Several high-profile incidents, including heavy crashes during practice sessions, have already raised safety concerns.

Verstappen’s attack on Domenicali — the man widely credited with steering Formula 1 through the turbulent COVID-19 period and expanding the calendar — is unprecedented in its directness. The Italian CEO has generally enjoyed strong support from teams and fans, making Verstappen’s call for his immediate resignation all the more shocking.

The FIA’s reaction came just hours later and left the entire paddock in disbelief.

In an official statement released late on Sunday night, the FIA announced that it had opened a formal review of the 2026 regulations, but stopped short of supporting Verstappen’s demand for Domenicali’s resignation. Instead, the governing body defended the new rules while acknowledging that “certain areas require urgent attention and possible mid-season adjustments.”

The statement read: “The FIA takes driver feedback extremely seriously. While we stand by the core principles of the 2026 regulations, we recognize that some aspects have created challenges. A technical working group has been formed to address these issues immediately.”

However, the most surprising part of the FIA’s response was a subtle but clear rebuke aimed at Verstappen himself. The statement noted that “public calls for resignations do not contribute to constructive dialogue” and reminded all stakeholders that “Formula 1 is a team sport built on collaboration, not individual ultimatums.”

This measured yet firm response has divided the paddock. Some team principals privately support Verstappen’s frustration with the regulations but believe his attack on Domenicali went too far. Others see the FIA’s statement as too soft and believe stronger action is needed to prevent the season from becoming a procession dominated by one or two teams.

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff welcomed the FIA’s review but warned against knee-jerk reactions:

“Max is a champion and his opinion matters. But changing regulations mid-season is extremely complex. We must be careful not to create more problems while trying to solve existing ones.”

McLaren CEO Zak Brown, who has also been vocal about the 2026 rules, took a more supportive stance toward Verstappen:

“Max is saying what many of us are thinking in private. The cars are harder to drive than expected, and the show is suffering. The FIA needs to listen.”

As the Japanese Grand Prix weekend concludes, the entire Formula 1 world is now focused on how the governing body will respond to Verstappen’s explosive comments. Will the technical working group deliver meaningful changes before the European season, or will the frustrations continue to grow?

For Max Verstappen, the message is clear: he is no longer willing to stay silent about what he sees as fundamental flaws in the 2026 regulations. His threat — although not repeated in the interview — still lingers in the background. If the situation does not improve, the four-time champion may seriously consider his future in the sport.

The coming weeks will be decisive. The FIA faces a delicate balancing act: addressing legitimate driver concerns while maintaining the integrity and stability of the new regulations they spent years developing.

One thing is certain: Max Verstappen’s fierce attack on Stefano Domenicali has turned up the heat on Formula 1’s leadership like never before. The 2026 season, already one of the most challenging in recent memory, has just become even more unpredictable.
