Nadal, who brought Spain tennis to an unprecedented height, said that Alcaraz is helping the country continue to maintain the number one position on the world tennis map.
“At the Grand Slam, he can completely surpass my title,” Nadal shared in a Spanish newspaper. “He is on the right track to become special. Hopefully it will come true. I hope he has a long career, because only that can achieve special figures. I hope the injury will stay away from Carlos and everything will be good. Only 22 years old has 6 Grand Slam titles, that is an unbelievable number, and I hope he also won more.”
Nadal also compared the achievements of Alcaraz with the legendary trio. At the age of 22, Alcaraz owned 6 Grand Slam championships – more than one title than Nadal at the same age, and far beyond Federer and Djokovic, who only had one Grand Slam championship.
“That’s right, his career is impressive,” Nadal admitted. “He is a very special player – this we have seen for many years – and he increasingly shows maturity. He is continuing to progress. It’s a great career.”
“I can only say that I am extremely happy for him. The truth is that Spain has a player like Carlos, which helps us maintain the position of a leading sports power in the world, not only in tennis but also in other sports,” Nadal added.
