This place is magical,” he wrote in one of his last entries.

The place where the remains were found was so inaccessible that it explained why the initial search efforts did not bear fruit. The rocks that fell not only ended the life of the family, but also hid any evidence of their presence for more than two decades. “It was a brutal reminder of how unpredictable nature can be,” said Jan Pissik, the other Czech climber, in a statement after the discovery. “Even the most experienced are not exempt from their risks.”
